Comic-Con 2015: Hannibal Panel

At Comic-Con, Hannibal creators Bryan Fuller and Martha De Laurentiis are joined by star Hugh Dancy to talk about the upcoming story arc for this season, the tale of the Red Dragon serial killer.

01:18There will be a three-year time jump between episodes seven and eight, Dancy confirms. Will is somewhat more settled and well-adjusted, “but that doesn’t last very long, that domestic retreat that he’s found”.

 

01:16Will has just got the crap kicked out of him again and again this season – “It’s only just getting started!” Dancy interjects.

 

01:16Armitage didn’t revisit past portrayals of Dolarhyde, because he didn’t want to be influenced, but “I probably will go and watch those movies now”.

 

01:15“Why am I wearing flowers on my head?” Armitage asks. “I don’t know!” Dancy admits. Fuller says that the flowers represent the floral beauty and elegance of the fandom, which is adorable.

 

01:13“It’s exciting to get into the Red Dragon story, given the dynamic we have between Hannibal and Will,” says Fuller. “Will Graham is looking at Francis Dolarhyde as a version of Hannibal that he might be able to save, and Hannibal is looking at Dolarhyde as a version of Will that he might be able to corrupt.”

 

01:12“It’s an emotional thing for all of us,” Dancy says, “and it’s not over in the sense that we were fully committed and living this thing for several years, and that is still true right now in this moment.”

 

01:10Fuller confirms that Netflix passed on season four because Amazon already had the streaming rights. Meanwhile, Amazon actually were keen, but they wanted to do it immediately, and Fuller wasn’t comfortable with the timeframe they offered.

 

01:10“The way this season ends” paves the way for a potential movie, Fuller says, and both Dancy and Mikkelsen are very keen on the idea.
